2021 Design Trends + Inspiration

2020 was a defining year for everything but especially the relationship we all have with our spaces. Kitchens became schools, basements became gyms and it left many of us scrambling to create a new office dynamic.

What better way to kick off the new year than saying hello to the newest trends of 2021 and goodbye to the ones that we’ll leave behind in 2020.

Hello to warm neutrals and earth tones. Goodbye to cool grays.

We are seeing warm grays, as well as greiges, creams, and taupe. Sherwin-Williams 2021 color of the year is Urbane Bronze, which is a pretty blend of gray/brown with green undertones. We’re also seeing a lot of green, dark blue, and rusty oranges/reds.

Move over white walls, dark interiors, and moody moments are here to stay.

We’re seeing a lot of monochromatic dark interiors. Our favorites are entire rooms-walls, ceiling, molding, and trim all painted the same color (or a slightly darker/lighter version of the color).

Hello, square tile.

Subway tile had its run but we will be seeing more businesses and homeowners choose square tiles over the traditional subway tile.

Fluted wood, everything we didn’t know we needed.

For this trend, you will see it on the walls, wrapped around a bar, maybe even a host stand.

As always, our designers wanted to add that people should do what they love in their own businesses + homes, and not necessarily just what’s trending!

“I personally stay classic/neutral with major design choices, and dabble with small trends I really like here and there,” says, Buffy Kaplan, our design library manager.

Check out a few other design trends to look forward to in 2021 below!
