[design] [build] by architects is evolving! Over the last couple months we completed our first substantial project, the Steel Plow Burger Company! We hired our first employee! And the Airstream continues to break the rules when compared to the "conventional" architect!
In August, the Farmer's Market came to a close for the Discover Architecture exhibit. It was a huge success, we had children of all ages interested in architecture and were even told by some parents that their children had continued to draw blueprints and make Popsicle structures when they returned to their homes. As we continue to grow the Architecture practice, it is important to us to educate the future leaders of the Quad Cities. Best case scenario would be, 10 years from now we end up hiring one of these inspiring architects!
In late August, we hired our first full-time employee! Valerie Pierce, Assoc. AIA, Architectural Designer. Valerie is a recent graduate of the five year architecture program at Iowa State University. Before working at [design] [build] by architects, Valerie had a summer internship at OPN Architects in Cedar Rapids. Most importantly, Valerie grew up in Dewitt, IA! We hope that we can prove to her that great architecture can come from homegrown architects in the Quad Cities!
In early September, the Steel Plow Burger Company opened its doors! The Steel Plow is [design] [build] by architects first full project to come to completion. The Steel Plow is also the first project to have the Airstream on site to better coordinate the architectural design with construction. Pair good design and construction with good food and the restaurant becomes an overnight sensation, Dwyer and Michaels even reviewed the restaurant!
Lastly, in support of the QC Chamber's campaign to break the rules, we created this awesome video to display how [design] [build] by architects breaks the rules!
